Painted by 2 friends - what a story! - Casey

This landscape began with Haidee Kenyon, an Impressionist painter drawn to the light of Southern California's hills and coast. Her feathery brushwork and luminous palette are unmistakable. After teaching in Chicago, she moved to San Diego in the 1920s, where she exhibited with the San Diego Art Guild and became a quiet but beloved figure in the local art scene.

She didn't finish this canvas. In 1944, after her passing, her friend Vina Slawson Hankins — a painter and fellow Chicago schoolteacher — completed it during a visit. Both women signed it. Two friends, two brushes, one painting. A small act of love.

Printed on archival paper from the original public domain work.
