Daniel is a large and very grand Drexel Heritage china cabinet. He came to me by way of a man named Earl. Earl has found me quite a few things. I get excited everytime I get a text from him and this piece was no exception!
When I saw this piece I immediately knew what colors I'd restore him with. This often happens with pieces. However considering the latest dining room design trends I'd need to make sure I was absolutely sure.
This was going to be an expensive piece to restore due to its' scale. I know younger generations don't consider a china hutch as an option, but more think about dining storage cabinets. It's a generational nuance that I needed to consider. Cabinets are more a built-in scenario. We all move so much these days, an actual china cabinet that can move with you, is a much more cost effective idea in the long run. AND, of course it can be restored and refreshed again in the future and passed down to new generations.
So with Daniel, I did my research and even created a few mood boards that would help me think about my potential customer. I hope you find them useful as dining room design ideas.
To decide on color, I wanted to explore the Hage Blue tone of Hugo but I wanted something a tad deeper and richer. Benjamin Moore’s Color Preview fan deck is my go-to for colors and Hidden Sapphire jumped out at me, as soon as I worked my way out of the green swatches. Green is my favorite color and it’s a hard habit to break. I even contemplated a dark olive for a minute.
Hidden Sapphire against the brass I knew would be fantastic. To complement the brass, we went with Swiss Coffee on the interior. I am quite pleased with how it turned out.
Below are four mood boards for dining room design ideas, based on Daniel. Sometimes a big piece like this can be intimidating. All items in the collections are available for purchase!
